The Muezzin's Lantern

The crown of the piece is a carved cedar minaret — a lantern that once sat on a rooftop above the medina, calling nothing now but memory. Beneath it, a face disappears into old lace and Berber silver; the body is wrapped in a kilim worn soft by a family that is no longer named.

Nothing is restored. The chips in the paint stay. To wear it is to carry a small piece of the city's skyline on your shoulders.
